Week 2 and 3 after total Macintosh switch.
Here are my notes from weeks 2 and 3 from using my Mac as my only Desktop machine at home.
- I love having the menu bar always up at the top of the screen.
- Oracle JDeveloper 10.1.2 is now production on Mac OS X.
- Once you set "use option key as meta key", using Emacs in Terminal.app rocks.
- Having my contacts on my iPod via iSync is way cool.
- Booting my Mac from my iPod is cool (or geeky).
- Having all the GNU tools installed with the developer's package is awesome.
- Since reading Learning Cocoa with Objective-C, Objective-C is starting to make sense.
- Moving my SSH keys over from my Linux box worked like a champ (thanks OpenSSH)
- Camino is starting to look promising, but I'm still using Safari for the most part.
- Mailing list rules in Entourage rock.
- Modeless windows (palettes) are used alot on the Mac, and they rock.
- Using the Command key for your main modifier is great (and less strain on your thumb)
- Intuit takes a long time to credit back your card when they issue you a refund.
- I wish Apple would create iFinance or iCash.
- The Mac has many key accelerators I never knew about (like Command-Shift-A to get to the Applications folder from any Finder window). Very useful.
