Week 2 and 3 after total Macintosh switch.

Here are my notes from weeks 2 and 3 from using my Mac as my only Desktop machine at home.

  1. I love having the menu bar always up at the top of the screen.
  2. Oracle JDeveloper 10.1.2 is now production on Mac OS X.
  3. Once you set "use option key as meta key", using Emacs in Terminal.app rocks.
  4. Having my contacts on my iPod via iSync is way cool.
  5. Booting my Mac from my iPod is cool (or geeky).
  6. Having all the GNU tools installed with the developer's package is awesome.
  7. Since reading Learning Cocoa with Objective-C, Objective-C is starting to make sense.
  8. Moving my SSH keys over from my Linux box worked like a champ (thanks OpenSSH)
  9. Camino is starting to look promising, but I'm still using Safari for the most part.
  10. Mailing list rules in Entourage rock.
  11. Modeless windows (palettes) are used alot on the Mac, and they rock.
  12. Using the Command key for your main modifier is great (and less strain on your thumb)
  13. Intuit takes a long time to credit back your card when they issue you a refund.
  14. I wish Apple would create iFinance or iCash.
  15. The Mac has many key accelerators I never knew about (like Command-Shift-A to get to the Applications folder from any Finder window). Very useful.
